10 = :) ............... 1 = :(
and somewhere in between = :/
Anxious to leave and get on the road
by 7 AM:
Note: It is 9 AM
Really. What's the hurray?
Dorm Room:
Note: Signed up for the Math & Science dorm in a double.
Assigned to a different dorm in a triple.
Son ~ 6 :/ "I'll make it work."
Mom ~ 3 >:(
Finding out the third room mate decided to move to an apartment leaving a good possibility of leaving it a double:
Son ~ 9 :) ............... Mom ~ 9 :)
... but with all that furniture:
Son ~ 6 :/ ............... Mom ~ 2 :(
Room mate:
Note: Seems like a nice, considerate boy. Even though he arrived much earlier than us he waited until son2 arrived to talk about the lower bed. Son2 graciously offered to take one of the higher bunks.
Son ~ 9 :) ............... Mom ~ 9 :)
Sunday report from son:
Note: He is signing up to be his 'wing representative' because "I'd like to get to know people and I enjoy talking to new people."
Son ~ 10 :) ............. Mom ~ 10 :)
Dorm room report after first night's sleep:
Note: The room is in a noisy location and the fan does not work.
Son ~ 7 :)
"I'll get used to it and to the high bed too but I am so close to the ceiling I can't sit up on my bed and read."
Mom ~ 2 :(
I find the RA within minutes after arriving and have him put in a work order to fix the fan.
The RA lives in the room next door.
Son ~ 7 :/ .............. Mom ~ 10 :)
Monday AM phone call before we meet for breakfast then leave for home:
Note: Son says he is exhausted from the night before of playing cards with his wing mates, playing Frisbee on campus, watching Star Trek and going to a pep rally.
Son ~ 9 :) ............... Mom ~ 5 :/
Over all report card of maternal emotional state at this point:
Note: Good. Better than expected.
Waking up to this for the past 2 mornings has helped tremendously.
A view from the bed:
Mom ~ 8 :) .............. Dad ~ 10 :)
If Mrs. P.M. is happy then Mr. P.M. is happy.
View from the outside the room:
We shared our morning with quail, a squirrel, two blue birds and two Adirondack chairs.
Picking up son2 and taking him out to breakfast:
Note: Mom is looking for all subtle signs of physical and emotional well-being and stress. Reminds him to take his vitamins and to get plenty of rest.
He assured me he would.
I choose to believe this.
Son ~ 8 :) Such a good boy. Mom ~ 8 :)
The Good-bye:
Note: "Make it short and sweet" - request of son2
Son ~ 9 :) ............... Mom ~ 9 :)
Strong hugs all around but no tears and not even a quivering lip in sight.
When your child is happy all is good!
Son ~ 10+ :D
Note: I turned around for a second and missed the best picture of all~
son2 kicked up his heals and clicked them together.
At least Mr. P.M. saw it.
I gave the moment an added '+'.

What a fun blog!
This is the sweetest post! It sounds like Son2 is off to a good start!! He's got great parents :)
Ah! Mom he is gonna be just fine!! sniff sniff but it gives this mom some tears that my day to do the same is very near and will it go as well. Rule of thumb get there early and never pick top bunk?!
Looks like he is set to go! Hope he has a great year!
Okay, how do you get through these moments. I almost cried when I saw the dorm room. I know it is probably just fine with the guys but all I could think was dark and...not pretty. hahaha But...as you say, if they are happy, it makes it all so much easier. What a clever way to blog about it, too. I give Mrs. PM a 10! Your son must be so proud of you, too!
mission accomplished, sounds like all went well.
now on to you my dear... how about that virtual martini party I heard about?!
V&V ~ Thank you! :)
Miss Sweet Tea ~ Thank you so saying so! Your name is so like you ~ Sweet! :)
Frau ~ Thank you for your comments over the last few posts and always. I can tell your day is almost at hand. I can't think too far along in the future. It is just too weird without voices other than my own and that of Mr. P. M. Very odd indeed. :)
Sunshine Meg ~ Thank you for your well wishes. I hope he has a good year too. I'm a little concerned of how he can study in that room though. I don't think I could. :)
Suzanne ~ You should have seen the girls moving in ... boxes of shoes, shelves, etc. I don't know where they were going to put them but they brought it all and their dads were just doing what they were being told. When we walked down the hall their rooms had color on the walls, in the bedspreads and on the pillows. Guys are a totally different animal. :)
SJN ~ I want the real thing! I did have a couple libations this weekend that were very good.. wine and a drink called a lush made with raspberry vodka and Tuaca. Complete with dry ice! I was very happy. :)
Love.
How are you doing??!
You did it! That last photo made ME want to cry. Waving goodbye. Ahh, a mother's job is hard isn't it? Hard on the heart! Looks like he will be ok though. :) Hope you will be ok, too.
This is a precious post. I loved reading it. You know he will be every bit as outstanding here as he was in high school - and you and hubby have all to do with that! What a doll. xoxo
what a GREAT and fun post!!! You've got me all choked up!
This is such a fun post! Good luck to your son :)
What a great post! I am loving your boy and don't even know him! Can he wait and marry one of my girls?
:)
What a great post. Having 2 college boys myself every one of your emotions or numbers resignated with me, the highs and lows, twists and turns. Can't live with them and can't live without em. Hope he is having an awesome year and don't know if it was for the pic but that dorm looked awfully neat, my sons dorm room belongs on Hoarders!!! LOL....thankfully not my son's doing but his very very messy roommate. Oh well makes them appreciate home that much more!
I really loved this. My youngest will leave for college next fall. Mary Ann
